Between February and May 2017 I went to see the alabastrai in their workshops and photographed them. In a more and more intense way, I discovered their spaces and their working process, the relationship between man and material, between artisan and alabaster. Observing and photographing I understood which science there is, which tradition, which virtuosity, which skill. The knowledge of the alabaster and the art of its workmanship, I realized, is a treasure. Delight of making, passion and love are contained in it. My photographic project ORO BIANCO (White Gold) is dedicated to the heart of Volterra: the artisan craftwork of the alabastrai.
